BiographyHistory

Koula Teo was born in Yastouni Ilias, Greece. She has been a member of Multicultural Arts, the Greek Australian Cultural League of Melbourne, Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria and a committee member of Kentro Technis. She is known mostly to the wider Greek public as a playright. Several of her plays, including Ena Zevgari Kaltses [A Pair of Cultures] , have been performed successfully in Melbourne theatres. She has won various commendations and prizes for her work including: a High Commendation from the Greek Australian Cultural League, in 1987 for the poem, Tote kai Tora [Now and Then], and in 1988 for the poem, E Balanta tou Mae [Ballad of May]; first prize from the Modern Greek Teacher's Association for her short story, To Telephtaio Roz [The Last Pink]; third prize from the Modern Greek Teachers Association for her short story, The Scalpel; and second prize for the Australia-wide Greek Play Competition, organised by the Themelio Salpatas Book Shop in New South Wales, for the play, Her Majesty the Mother. Her work was read on Radio 3EA and Radio 3CR in 1988 and 1989 and on SBS TV in 1988. She has read at Picolo Spoleto in 1987 and 1988, at the Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria in 1988 and at the EEAMA Festival and the Greek Festival in 1989.
