BiographyHistory

Toany Coady has degrees from the Universities of Sydney, Oxford, Cambridge and Melbourne. While at the University of Melbourne he edited the Catholic magazine, Prospect (1962-63). He subsequently taught in the philosophy department for many years at the University of Melbourne. He has been a Visiting Lecturer and Visiting Fellow at numerous universities including Oxford and Cambridge, Princeton University and University of Maryland, and the United States Institute of Peace in Washington. He has published on Epistemology, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Mind, Ethics and Political Philosophy. He is one of a handful of philosophers to be honoured by election both as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. In 2003 he was a Professorial Fellow at the Australian Research Council Special Research Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics.
