BiographyHistory

Distinguished journalist Alan Fitzgerald was a long-serving member of the federal parliamentary press gallery. He wrote regularly for a range of Australian newspapers including the Canberra Times, the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Sun-Herald and also for the Bulletin magazine. From 1969 to 1971, Fitzgerald was president of the National Press Club.

Fitzgerald made significant contributions to the development of Canberra. He served on the Canberra Advisory Council and worked for the National Capital Development Commission.
