Bob Magor spent his childhood in the area around Myponga, South Australia. He left school at the age of fifteen, then spent about twenty-five years working on his family's sheep property. In 1970 he set up a dairy and spent seventeen years as a dairy farmer before having 'a personality clash with dairy cattle'. In 1989 he leased the dairy, while continuing to breed sheep and cattle, and eventually closed it in 2000.
Magor's first work was released at Tamworth Country Music festivals in the early 1990s, where he became a regular presenter in his chosen category of Bush Verse and Humorous Stories. He now spends approximately six months on the farm and six months travelling, performing and entertaining. He has made CD recordings of selections from of his books.
