As a young man, Frederick John McLeod was a member of the Mounted Police in the Northern Territory, until it came under Federal control. He then went into the stock and station industry. An obituary notice in Southerly magazine (1954, number 2) mentions an unpublished manuscript titled 'More About Womba'. This has not been traced.
