BiographyHistory

English poet and critic.

One of the earliest participants in the Imagist group of poets, Aldington was a friend, colleague, and associate (at various times) of such writers as Ezra Pound, Ford Madox Ford, T.S. Eliot, and Lawrence Durrell, and served as literary editor and columnist for The Egoist. As a critic, his reputation suffered from what was perceived as a bitter, venomous attack on T.E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia: A Biographical Inquiry (1955).
