Helen Cerne is a Melbourne writer who has published short stories, poems and articles in many Australian literary magazines, including Meanjin, Overland, Hecate, the Age, Famous Reporter.
A coordinator of Western Union Writers and active in the arts community in the western suburbs, she has taught creative writing at tertiary level for many years. She has published four works: Heathdale Christian College : A Vision Becomes a Reality, 1982-1992 (co-authored with Bronwen Hickman, 1993), Just Heart Work (poetry and short fiction, 2003), Those who Can't (a novel about teaching, 2007), and Shifting (a collaborative autobiographical novel with her partner Serge Cerne, 2015).
In 2007, she started a small publishing company, Vanark Press, to publish first novels by authors such as Stuart Forsyth, Enza Gandolfo, and Jonathan Griffiths. She completed her PhD in 2013, with a dissertation entitled Circling Lina: Alternate Narratives exploring Lina Bryans, Darebin Artists and the Self.
