BiographyHistory

Stansfield qualified as a librarian at Melbourne University. His poetry came to the attention of Leonard Radic when they were both students at university. Radic desribed it as having a "gentle, controlled lyricism". Stansfield was responsible for the establishment of three regional library schemes in Victoria and was the Regional Librarian for the cities of Box Hill and Doncaster, where he was active in promoting the role of public libraries as community resource centres.. He published papers on this in magazines such as Meanjin and Australiasian Public Libraries and Information Services.
