BiographyHistory

Pearlie McNeill's work has appeared in numerous anthologies, journals and magazines in Australia, Britain and the United States of America. Non-Australian anthologies include Everyday Matters 2 (1980), Girls Next Door (1984), In Other Words (1987), International Feminist Fiction (1992), Beyond Blood (1995) and Lesbians Raising Sons (1997). Journals include Forum, Everywoman and Morning Star. Her first radio play, 'Half Past My Life : An Exploration of One Woman's Madness', was broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 1979. With Marie McShae she established Women Write, a feminist publishing and distribution group. She moved to Britain in 1981, where she helped organise the first feminist book fair in London in 1984. She has conducted creative writing workshops in Britain, Norway and Rome, and taught in women's studies at Lancashire Polytechnic. She has also taught creative writing at Liverpool University. As well as her fiction and autobiography, she has co-edited Through the Break : Women in Personal Crisis (1986) and Women Talk Sex (1992). In 1994 she published Because You Want to Write : A Workbook for Women.
