Robyn Read was educated and has lived most of her life on the lower north shore of Sydney Harbour. She attended Monte Sant Angelo College, North Sydney, and graduated from the University of Sydney with a BA, MTCP. Read has worked as a journalist, town planner, public servant and alderman. She was the Independent member for the seat of North Shore in the New South Wales Parliament from November 1988 to May 1991.
