BiographyHistory

Earle Hackett, a pathologist and haematologist, arrived in Adelaide in 1958 to take up a position at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Research. He quickly became involved in the Adelaide's cultural life and began producing scripts for medical programs that were broadcast on ABC Radio.

Hackett was appointed a commissioner at the ABC in the early 1970s and became chairman following the death of Richard Downing. He steered the ABC through budgetary cutbacks during the Fraser Government years.
