BiographyHistory

Songping Jin arrived in Australia in the end of 1986 in pursuit of a PhD degree at ANU. He became an Australian citizen in 1993. He is the first scholar in China to write a dissertation on the American poet William Carlos Williams, entitled Leaving Room for Thought—Consciousness of Space in William Carlos Williams' Poetry (graduation dissertation, Beijing Language Institute, 1982).

He studied in ANU between 1986 and 1991. His PhD dissertation 1991 in ANU is entitled The “Scene” and the Ideogram of the Poetry of Ezra Pound, on which Hugh Kenner commented: 'The dissertation is erudite, sensitive, and distinguished'.

His main book, The Poetics of the Ideogram: Ezra Pound’s Poetry and Hermeneutic Interpretation, was published by Peter Lang in 2002. He also published, in the Chinese language, academic research papers and creative works that have appeared in various Chinese prestigious journals including Zhonghua Xiqu (The Chinese Theaters) and Zhongguo Zuojia (Chinese Writers) in China.
