BiographyHistory

"Joyce Goodes follows in the tradition of Ruth Draper and Rosamund Fuller in her one-woman stage presentations. She was educated in Perth at the Teachers' Training College, University of Western Australia, studied speech and drama with Eileen O'Keefe and H. C. Traynor at Melbourne Conservatorium, and acted in Melbourne with Brett Randall's famous "Little Theatre." Since settling in Canberra in 1942 with her husband the Director General of Social Services, she has acted and produced for Repertory, and formed her own company, The Theatre Players in 1960. Since then she has presented more than 23 plays by authors including Ibsen, Shaw, Wilde, Ionesco and Tennessee Williams, as well as topical revue. She played this adaptation of The Pea Pickers first in Canberra, then in Sydney earlier this year."
