Marguerite Varday has travelled widely both overseas and in Australia and has lived in several Australian states. She holds a B.A. from Deakin University and has worked as a freelance writer. She has held membership of several associations for writers including the Australian Scriptwriters Association, Fellowship of Australian Writers, PEN, Melbourne Poets, the Deakin Literary Society and the Victorian Writers Centre, and she was at one stage president of the Society of Women Writers (Vic).
Varday's short stories and poetry are represented in many anthologies including The Beautiful Hill (1993), Rhymes for the Times (1993), Poppy Seeds and Laurel Tree : Winning and Commended Entries (vol. 2), various Deakin Literary Society anthologies, and the children's anthologies Stuff and Nonsense (1974), More Stuff and Nonsense (1980), The Puffin Fun Book (1980), and A Packet of Poems (1982) among others. She has also written readers for children.
