According to the Harlequin website, Clark wrote her first romance manuscript, which was rejected, at seventeen, but at twenty-three she started writing again, learning the craft with the support of a local romance writing group. Several more rejections followed and she decided to try writing medical romances, drawing on her background of work in a major hospital. This decision led to her first published novel, A Surgeon's Care (1996). Clark has since produced a series of publications in the Mills and Boon Medical Romance series. The site also notes that Clark has been a member of the Romance Writers Association, and has run a WEA course on romance writing.
Clark's author website, however, describes 'Lucy Clark' as a husband-and-wife writing team
