1 Ghosts Jodi Gallagher , 2024 single work drama

'Moving the story from its original Norwegian setting to the heat and dust of the Victorian bush in the late nineteenth century, this re-imagining of the Ibsen classic promises to viscerally confront a contemporary Australian audience with the repressed truths of intergenerational illness and trauma.

'We follow Mrs Alving as she tries to shield her son, Oswald, from the truth of their family’s past. But as ghostly secrets unravel, she is forced to confront the reality of their lives, buried under her compulsion to maintain outward propriety and duty. GHOSTS is a journey through the shadows of hidden sins and the quest for truth.'

1 'Relaxed and Comfortable' : Carey, Grenville and the Politics of the History Novel Jodi Gallagher , 2010 single work criticism
— Appears in: Remaking Literary History 2010; (p. 233-244)
'The relationship between history and literature is symbiotic, particularly in the context of building foundational myths about a relatively new nation-state. In Australia, with barely two hundred years of white settlement compared to an estimated sixty thousand years of Indigenous occupation, discussions about the colonial encounter have an immediate political relevance to both political and artistic representations of Indigenous people. This chapter links the contentious issues in the preambles written for the Australian constitution during the 1999 campaign for a Republic with the current state of the historical novel in Australia' (p. 233)
