BiographyHistory

Stefan von Kotze worked for some years in Australia in the 1890s as a journalist during which time he wrote sketches about Australia in English for various newspapers. In 1899, after being employed initially on The Northern Miner, von Kotze served as editor of The Eagle in Charters Towers.

Later he published a German version of his sketches and, after his death, this collection was translated back into English. His works in German also include a translation of some Australian authors and travel books about the Antipodes, Papua, Africa and the Orient. The Bulletin published many of his poems between 1897 and 1900.
