  • Dr. Johnston has a PhD from the University of Sydney and holds (2001) a Senior Lectureship in the disciplines of English, Communication and Cultural Studies at the University of Western Australia. Her research interests include 19th Century literature and non-fiction writing both British and Australian; George Eliot; travel writing, women and translation and Romanticism. Apart from her publications in the field of Australian literature, she has published The Journals of George Eliot, edited with Margaret Harris, Cambridge University Press, 1998, and Anna Jameson: Victorian, Feminist, Woman of Letters, Scolar Press, 1997.
