BiographyHistory

Born in Australia to Spanish emigrant parents, Gloria Montero grew up in North Queensland, but moved to Canada in 1955. Here she worked as a singer, actress, broadcaster and scriptwriter, and also wrote poetry. By 1997 she was living in Barcelona.

Both her fiction and her non-fiction show a fascination with history, particularly Canadian history. The Immigrants was published in 1977, and in 1979, We Stood Together: First-Hand Accounts of Dramatic Events in Canada's Labour Past. She has since written young adult novels, a play and the novel The Villa Marini which is set in Australia..
