BiographyHistory

Fang Xiangshu received a Diploma in Teaching from Nanjing Teachers University and lectured there from 1979-1984. He came to Australia as an International Teaching Fellow and worked as an exchange teacher at Victoria College from 1984. He was recalled to China in 1986 and defected to Australia in 1987. After completing a Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne, he enrolled as a Doctor of Philosophy student at the University of Melbourne. From 1990 he lectured in Chinese language and culture at Victoria College, which subsequently became part of Deakin University. He has been a member of the National Book Council and in 1991 he performed his work with Trevor Hay at La Mama and O'Connell's.
