Yve Louis' first writing was for the ABC's Argonauts' Club. She went to school at North Sydney Girls' High School, afterwards working in advertising while also studying by night at Sydney's Independent Theatre. She appeared there in several plays directed by Doris Fitton. Later she worked in radio, and also toured with the Elizabethan Theatre Co as Bubba in a production of Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.
Yve Louis has worked as a scriptwriter, copywriter and playwright/director. She has written for Kindergarten of the Air and Playschool (nos 46-50, The Home, ABC/TV 1967 and nos 111-115, Trains, ABC/TV 1969), as well as for school magazines in New South Wales (NSW) and in New Zealand, and has scripted mini-dramas for ABC radio. She also wrote and directed a series of plays for schools under the aegis of the Australian Theatre for Young People. Her earlier children's work was written as 'Vonne Thomas'. She has worked freelance writing advertisements for print and radio, and has been a full-time copywriter for a NSW radio station.
In 1983 Yve Louis turned seriously to writing poetry. She moved to Adelaide from Armidale in 1991, read regularly at Friendly Street and was co-editor of Friendly Street Reader 18 (1994). Her first collection of poetry, Silver from Black, was published in Friendly Street New Poets 1 (1994). Her work has been read on the ABC programme A First Hearing and on 5UV's Writers' Radio. In December 1995 she returned to NSW to live, and was editor of the New England Review 1996-8. In 1999 she was the recipient of an Australian Society of Authors Mentorship to work on a new collection of poetry.
Yve Louis also subscribed to membership of the Writers' Centre (South Australia ), and the Friendly Street Poets (SA).
