Lloyd Davies was educated at Christ Church Grammar and the University of Western Australia. He served in the AIF during WW2 and was a barrister from 1949 until his retirement in 2000.
Davies was a strong opponent of racism, helping to form the Committee for the Defence of Native Rights in 1946 and working as a lawyer with the Aboriginal Legal Service for many years. He was awarded an OAM in 1992 for service to the Aboriginal people. Davies was also a strong supporter of workers rights, earning a legal reputation as their advocate during numerous disputes in the 1950s. In 1970, he joined the Independent Bar of W.A. and in 1975 he served with the Aboriginal Legal Service. In 1976, he helped organise a conference on the rights of handicapped persons and continued for many years to assist underprivileged people. His publications also include Sheila: A Biography of Sheila Mary McClemans OBE, CMG, SJM, BA, LLB and WA Duty Counsel Handbook (1st ed., 1974).
Davies was married to Dorothy Hewett until they divorced in 1949. He remained married to his second wife for over fifty years.
