Rosaleen Love grew up in sub-tropical Queensland surrounded by science and writing. She attended Ipswich Girls' Grammar prior to studying science at the University of Queensland and at Cambridge University. Love undertook her PhD studies at the University of Melbourne during the 1970s. She has lectured in the history and philosophy of science and in professional writing, teaching at the Swinburne University of Technology and the Victoria University of Technology.

With her background steeped in science, Love has authored many speculative fiction stories. A number of these have been published in collections and anthologies, notably The Total Devotion Machine (1989), Evolution Annie (1993), She's Fantastical (1995), Dreaming Down Under (1998), Forever Shores (2003), The Travelling Tide (2005). Her writing has also appeared in Eidolon, Aphelion, Island, Meanjin, Westerly, Arena Magazine, The Rhizome Factor, Overland, and Australian Book Review.

The daughter of pseudonymously named romantic fiction author Mary Bishop, Love is the mother of fantasy writer Penelope Love and was the wife of Harold Love (1937-2007).
