BiographyHistory

Ted Colles was a cartoonist and journalist. His illustrations and humorous pieces frequently appeared in magazines such as the Bulletin, Smith's Weekly, Lone Hand, Steele Rudd's Magazine and the Melbourne Herald. In the early 1920s he worked at the Sydney Sun, where he edited the children's supplement 'Sunbeams'.

In World War I Colles served at Gallipoli with the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. He was one of the 'staff' recruited by editor Charles Bean to help compile The Anzac Book. His artwork features prominently in the book.
