BiographyHistory

Basil Johnson's career was as an academic geographer, specialising in South Asian studies and writing widely in that field. He worked as an aid adviser to the Australian High Commission in Colombo from 1983-1984. Johnson developed a deep knowledge of Sri Lankan culture and politics, as evidenced in his novel Jaffna, Bloody Jaffna. He was foundation Professor of Geography at Monash University (1962-1980).
