Allan Aldous left Western Australia for England in 1935, at the age of 24. Between 1938 and 1939, the BBC produced three of his radio plays. During the Second World War, he served in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands with the AIF, as a drama specialist with Army Education.
A lecturer, broadcaster and adult educationalist, Aldous wrote in a number of genres. These included children's fiction, mysteries, plays, short stories, and literary criticism. He also produced scripts for radio, television and theatre, including the frequently performed radio play "Game as Ned Kelly" (1939).
