BiographyHistory

Inspired by pianist Will McIntyre, Dick Hughes began his jazz career as a pianist, singer and president of the Melbourne University Rhythm Club 1950-51. He furthered his musical career in London, returning to settle in Sydney in 1955, where he established himself in the traditional jazz community as a musician and a journalist.

He has toured extensively in Australia and overseas and was the first solo pianist to perform in the Sydney Opera House in 1973.
