Stan Marks was born of Jewish background (his grandparents on his mother's side were from Poland and on his father's side from Russia) and was brought to Australia by his parents at the age of eighteen months. Also acquainted with a knowledge of Yiddish, Hebrew and German, he has worked extensively as a journalist and contributor to periodicals in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. He has served as Supervisor of Publicity for the Australian Broadcasting Commission and as Promotions Manager for the Australian Tourist Commission. He has held membership of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) and the Australian Society of Authors (ASA).
Marks originated the daily 'MS' cartoon which has appeared regularly in the Melbourne Herald, the Auckland Star and the Christchurch Star. The author of a number of books including St Kilda Sketchbook (1980) and Malvern Sketchbook (1980), and the editor of Reflections, 20 Years 1984-2004 : Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre Melbourne, he was named Glen Eira City Council Citizen of the Year in 2003.
