BiographyHistory

Lady Alexandra Hasluck was a social historian and a graduate from the University of Western Australia. She worked as a teacher until her marriage in 1932 to politician (and later governor-general) Sir Paul Hasluck (q.v.). Despite her busy public life, Alexandra Hasluck wrote a number of substantial historical, social and biographical studies, an autobiography as well as a book of short stories, and she edited collections of letters. In 1970 she was awarded an honorary D.Litt. by the University of Western Australia, and she was made a Dame of the Order of Australia in 1978. Alexandra Hasluck was the mother of Nicholas Hasluck (q.v.).
