BiographyHistory

Bayldon was born at Leeds in England, educated at the Leeds Grammar School, and had published two volumes of poetry before he arrived in Australia in 1889, when he became a journalist in Brisbane. In 1897 he published a collection, Poems. His occupations included tea-merchant, private secretary, lecturer, and advertising script writer. His stories appeared in various periodicals and were collected in The Tragedy Behind the Curtain and Other Stories (1910). Colin Roderick considers his work has been neglected by both critics and anthologists, and that it possesses both humour and sympathy.
