BiographyHistory

Walter Hughes was an English furniture salesman who began to write science fiction after reading several books and deciding he could do better. His first book was Blast off at Woomera (1957), providing a brief Australian setting before space travel takes over the narrative. A sequel, The Domes of Pico (1958) is also set briefly in Australia, however the remainder of his more than two dozen books for children have nothing to do with Australia.
