Anne Deveson was a writer, broadcaster and documentary film producer. She chaired the SA Film Corporation from 1984-1987 and was Director of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School from 1985-1988. She produced a number of documentaries on social issues. In 1980 she was awarded the United Nations Gold Citation, Media Peace Prize, and in 1983 she was made a member of the Order of Australia for services to the media.
She was a member of a number of social justice commissions and enquiries.
Her son Jonathan developed schizophrenia, and the story of his illness is told in her book Tell Me I'm Here. She helped establish the NSW Schizophrenia Fellowship and the national body, Schizophrenia Australia, and in 1991 produced and directed a documentary on schizophrenia, Spinning Out.
She was the mother of writer Georgia Blain.
