BiographyHistory

A well-known writer about works for young people, Agnes Nieuwenhuizen was born in Iran of Hungarian parents, and the family arrived in Australia in 1949. She spent many years as a secondary school teacher, before pursuing her interest in youth literature and the promotion of reading through different means. she established both the Youth Literature Program and the Centre for Youth Literature at the State Library of Victoria.

Agnes Nieuwenhuizen received the Dromkeen Medal in 1994 for her contribution to Australian children's literature.
