Charles Hulley graduated in Arts and Law from Sydney University and was an Alumnus of the Harvard School of Business. He travelled extensively and worked as an executive for a large American corporation. After his retirement Hulley was able to concentrate on his writing career. He published a biography of his friend, Australian artist and interpreter of Aboriginal myths Ainslie Roberts (Ainslie Roberts and the Dreamtime, 1988), and paintings by Roberts were used to illustrate Hulley's book Dreamtime Moon: Aboriginal Myths of the Moon (1996).
