BiographyHistory

Stanley Kingsmill travelled extensively in Australia, America, Africa, Fiji and the Hawaiian Islands. On the strength of his adventurous methods of travel (e.g. he trekked 2,000 miles overland in a Cape Wagon from Port Elizabeth into Zululand) he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society in 1913. It is not certain that he was an Australian, although he was living in Sydney around the time of the First World War. He served in the Boer War and the Australian Boer War Nominal Roll lists a Stanley Horace Kingsmill, who was a trooper in the 3rd NSW Mounted Rifles. However, the Royal Geographic Society records have the name as Stanley Arthur Scott Kingsmill.
