After war service, Donald Moore entered the industrial world in Newcastle Upon Tyne, where one of his leisure pursuits was 'Poetry in the Pub'. He moved to Manchester to become, for the next quarter of a century, chief executive of Textile Institute, an international scientific organisation. In his fifties he returned to his love of poetry and, as a part-time student, acquired two highter degrees in English literature. His published work includes a critical appreciation of Louis MacNeice, three volumes of poetry, one broadsheet and numerous articles. He has lectured for the Community Programmes Department of the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, broadcast on 2NUR-FM, founded the Lake Macquarie Poetry Society (LAMPS) and the Friends of Lake Macquarie Libraries, and designed the Roland Robinson Literary Awards.
