Peter Manning began his career in journalism with the
Bulletin and with the
Sydney Morning Herald. He then joined the ABC, working first as a television reporter and later as a producer. In the 1980s he was executive producer of Four Corners and then became head of ABC News and Current Affairs. In the 1990s he was general manager of ABC Radio National. Beginning in 2000, Manning moved into academia, becoming an Adjunct Professor of Journalism at UTS. His PhD research formed the basis of his book
Dog Whistle Politics and Journalism: Reporting Arabic and Muslim People in Sydney Newspapers. He has also written
