Moira Rayner is a lawyer and social policy commentator. After serving from 1986 to 1990 as Commissioner/Chair of the Western Australian Law Reform Commission, she became the Victorian Commissioner for Equal Opportunity for four years. In 2000, she took up the post of Commissioner of the Office of Children's Rights in London. In 2002, she returned to Perth for personal reasons and was appointed as the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity in Western Australia.
Rayner has been actively involved and/or an office-bearer of numerous organisations including the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. She has also been a columnist with The Age and has written a number of non-fiction books. She has a special interest in feminism and women's rights and is writing a biography of former Victorian Premier, Joan Kirner.
