BiographyHistory

Louis de Paor was born and educated in Cork , Ireland. He studied Irish and Heritage Studies and received a doctorate in Modern Irish, then taught at the National University of Ireland. From 1987 to 1996 he lived in Melbourne and he worked as a lecturer at the University of Sydney and as the presenter and producer of an Irish radio programme in Melbourne. The Australian Arts Council awarded him a Writer's Project grant in 1990 and 1991 and, in 1995, he was awarded a Writer's Fellowship. He published several collections of poetry, written in Irish, with English translations.
