BiographyHistory

Arriving in Australia in 1840, Richard Howitt became a landowner until he sold the property in 1844 and returned to England. Some of his poetry was written approximately five years after the founding of Melbourne. He also wrote lyrics for music, and other literary works before and after his time in Australia.

Richard Howitt's brother was William Howitt (qv).
