BiographyHistory

'Professor Virginia Blain has been Head of the Department of English at Macquarie University. She is a Professorial Fellow in English and teaches undergraduate units in Victorian literature, Australian literature, and Feminism and Literature. Her research interests are in nineteenth-century British literature, nineteenth and twentieth-century Australian literature, feminist theory, literary biography, gay and lesbian theory, and Virginia Woolf. She was one of the three editors of the Feminist Companion to Literature and one of the section editors of the new Dictionary of National Biography. In 1998, her book on the nineteenth-century British poet Caroline Bowles Southey was published.' (Source: The Australian Academy of the Humanities website)
