Peter Kenna was educated at the Christian Brothers School, Lewisham until he was fourteen, after which he worked in a variety of jobs. Before he was twenty he was engaged in the entertainment world by participating in concert parties at the camps around Sydney during the Second World War. He wrote his first play at the age of twenty-one. By the 1950s he had become an established radio actor and he joined the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust when it was formed in 1954. Kenna worked in London from 1960 to 1964 but he later settled in Sydney. Apart from his many plays, of which The Cassidy Album (a trilogy) with its gay character, Joe Cassidy, has become his best known, he has also written television and radio scripts.
