Author and songwriter Ted Egan started performing and recording in 1969.
He worked with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs as a Patrol Officer, Reserve Superintendent, Teacher and District Officer in the Northern Territory including Borroloola, Groote Eylandt, Maningrida and Yuendumu. While working in the bush he studied for a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in 2002 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Northern Territory University.
On 18 November 2003 Ted Egan was sworn in as the 18th Administrator of the Northern Territory by the Governor-General of Australia, Michael Jeffery.
Ted Egan was made National Patron of the Year of the Outback 2006.
