Frank Walker was educated at Newington College and graduated in Arts from The University of Sydney. He joined the staff of the Sydney Morning Herald in 1938 prior to enlisting for service during World War II. After the war, Walker worked for Reuters-Australian Consolidated Press and later (in 1951) for the Herald in Melbourne.
Walker joined the Australian Government Information Service in 1956, working from London. In 1960 he was appointed press attache at Australia's embassy in Germany.
Walker retired in 1980 and settled on the Central Coast of New South Wales. During his retirment he wrote and edited several non-fiction books on naval warfare including HMAS Armidale: The Ship That Had to Die (1990) and Corvettes: Little Ships for Big Men (1995).
