Emily Hope, daughter of the poet A. D. Hope, graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1967 with a Diploma of Art in Gold, Silversmithing and Sculpture. From 1968-1970 she taught part-time for the Council of Adult Education, Melbourne and in 1970 began teaching classes from her home in jewellery and enamelling. For the next ten years, she worked as a full time professional artist in metal work and sculpting.
During 1975-1976 she visited Thailand, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and England. While in Nepal she worked with traditional bronze casters. She has been a member of the Contemporary Art Society of Australia, Victoria, Arts and Crafts Society of Victoria and the Women's Art Forum.
Her work was exhibited around Australia in the 1960s and 1970s.
