BiographyHistory

Born in 1958 in Singapore, to Armenian and Irish parents, Marcella Polain arrived in Perth in 1960. She studied at Curtin University and at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in Sydney. Since the mid 1990s she has taught writing at Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia. Prior to that, she worked as a screen writer and secondary teacher. In 1994, Polain co-founded WEB, a monthly reading and performance event for women in Western Australia.

  • In 2015 Dr Marcella Polain was awarded the International Grand Prize for Poetry at the 19th International Curtea de Arges Poetry Nights Festival in Romania. The three winning poems are : Still; Turn; and Silence
