BiographyHistory

Eric Dowling is an Australian philosopher. He gained a B.A. at the University of Sydney (where he was a student of John Anderson) and then went on to complete his Ph.D. at the University of London. He later taught philosophy for many years at the University of New South Wales. During the early 1950s, whilst a student at the University of Sydney, Dowling was prominent within the anti-conscription movement, and he was also for a time connected with the Sydney Push. He is the author of Love Passion Action: The Meaning of Love and its Place in Life (1995).
