BiographyHistory

Alice Paterson arrived in Australia in 1849 after travelling from England with her parents on the ship Posthumous. She married William Paterson in 1868 and went to live at Mildura where he was connected with the old Mildura Station, but she was small and delicate and not well suited to the hard life this entailed. Alice Paterson was often ill, and her three children all died young. Her orphaned niece Hetty lived with her for a long time, and nursed her through bronchitis. As well as her novels, Paterson is believed to have written serials for The Register.
