Max Walker played 94 games in the Victorian Football League for the Melbourne Football Club between 1967-1972. He ended his football career to concentrate on cricket, subsequently playing thirteen years of first-class cricket for Victoria and Australia during the 1970s. After completing several ghost-written books on cricket, the humorous anecdotes Walker first published in the Australian Post were collected as How to Hypnotise Chooks and Other Great Yarns (1987), beginning a series of best-selling 'how to' books. He has since pursued a successful career in the the media and on the professional speaking circuit, publishing several more books of humorous anecdotes along the way.
