BiographyHistory

Former Australian Labor Party cabinet minister, who served from 1984 to 1996. Prior to his election to parliament, he had been a university lecturer at the NSW Institute of Technology (1974-1979) and solicitor for the NSW Aboriginal Legal Service (1979-1984). After leaving parliament, he served as chief executive of the Australian Red Cross (2005-2015).

In 2020, Tickner released a memoir about his search for his birth parents.
